Our love story: WPLJ to Charleston. Theresa, my partner in dreams, adventures, and memories.
Our love story: WPLJ to Charleston. Theresa, my partner in dreams, adventures, and memories.
In business, we often hear about collaboration, partnerships, and allies. But it all comes down to finding that special someone: the right collaborator, the right partner, the right ally.
Well, I found mine. My wife, Theresa, has been all of those things to me. We met when I was a scrappy young intern at WPLJ, and she was running the promotions and marketing department.
We quickly became friends, and before long, I was moving a TV & Podcasts for her and leaving my underwear in her drawers. We’ve been together for over 20 years, and it’s because we’re the perfect match.
Doing morning radio in NYC is more than a job; it’s a lifestyle. I’d wake up at 3 AM, be in the studio by 5, do a four-hour live show, then spend a couple of hours preparing for the next one. There was no off switch. Naps were my friend, and I was usually in bed by 10. My social life was non-existent. When people asked if I got used to it, I’d say, “No, I got used to being tired. All the time.”
Luckily, Theresa was a radio lifer. She understood my crazy schedule and still loves me.
I’m a pretty sarcastic person, and she loves me anyway. I’m an optimist, and she’s more of a realist. I make mistakes and hurt her feelings, but she still loves me.
When I wanted to make a film about Instagram witches, I was ready to quit when I saw the cost. But she told me to go for it and gave me the money to fund the project. Thanks to her, “The Witches of Bushwick” became a reality and one of my proudest creative moments.
After WPLJ was sold in 2019, I moved to Charleston to work with Advantage Media. Theresa had always lived in New York, but she moved with me. We built a home and a great group of friends here.
I’m loud, glued to my phone, and a terrible procrastinator, but she still thinks I’m the best collaborator, partner, and ally she could ask for.
Looking back on our journey, it’s remarkable how we’ve grown individually and as a couple. Theresa’s support has been unwavering, and her belief in me has been a constant source of motivation. Whether it was encouraging me to pursue my wildest ideas or standing by me during the toughest times, she has been my rock.
Our adventures together have been nothing short of extraordinary. From our impromptu weekend getaways to exploring new cities, to our quiet evenings at home binge-watching our favorite shows, every moment has been a cherished memory. Theresa has this incredible ability to make the ordinary feel special, and her presence brings irreplaceable joy and comfort.
Professionally, Theresa’s insights have been invaluable. Her background in promotions and marketing has not only helped me navigate the complexities of the media industry but also inspired me to think creatively and strategically. She’s been my sounding board, critic, and biggest cheerleader. Her feedback, whether on a new idea or a script, is always honest and constructive, pushing me to be my best.
In Charleston, we’ve built a new chapter of our lives. Moving away from New York was a big change, but Theresa embraced it (after a while) with her characteristic grace and enthusiasm. We’ve discovered new passions, made wonderful friends, and created a home filled with love and laughter. Nathan, our dog, has been an amazing addition to our family, and seeing Theresa as a loving dog mom has only deepened my admiration for her.
Theresa just celebrated her birthday - and no I’m not writing this because I forgot - and it’s a reminder of how fortunate I am to have her in my life. Celebrating her is not just about marking another year but acknowledging the incredible person she is. Her kindness, intelligence, and unwavering support have shaped our lives in profound ways. She has taught me the true meaning of partnership, and for that, I am eternally grateful.
Happy Birthday, Babe! Here’s to many more years of love, laughter, and shared dreams. I love you more than words can express.
